History
The building is named by Mrs. Ada T Huntzinger, who named it in honor of her father, the late Mahlon D.Thatcher. Mahlon Thatcher was a winter visitor to Pasadena during his lifetime.A Colorado pioneer, Mr. Thatcher had varied interests throughout the West in ranches, banks, railroads, and industrial enterprises. At the close of World War II, Mrs. Huntzinger decided to improve the Green Street property, which she had owned since 1928. She knew that a medical center would be an addition to the city of Pasadena.
Since then, Thatcher has been one of the most iconic medical buildings in Pasadena serving its residents for over 70 years.Today, we have doctors that used to come to Thatcher as children, who often share fond memories of coming to the building.
